Yellow Top

Finishing touches in the studio

Yellow Top, 2016, oil, enamel and pencil on canvas, 122 x 84 cm.

White Open, 2008. Oil, enamel and pencil on canvas, diptych, 204 x 122 cm. Private collection.

I spent yesterday doing the final touches to Yellow Top, a commission. The client, who already has work of mine, selected the palette, size and style of the work based on two earlier works including White Open (above). I was very pleased with the whole process as it gave me room to improvise a new painting. This work will be soon hanging in a beautiful contemporary home filled with a great selection of Australian abstraction.

Sporen, 2015, diptych by Age Hartsuiker

When I was in the Netherlands late last year I became interested in the work of Kunsthuis LOOF co founder Age Hartsuiker. I suggested to swap our work and recently received these beautiful northern light landscapes from Friesland in the far north of the Netherlands. I love swapping and now have works from artists in Italy, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands and of course many Australian artists.

Text for Fragment 1, 2015.

In 2014 I embarked on what would become a series of paper works influenced by my memory of everyday objects from my childhood. Fragment 1, 2015, combines memories of craft activities, material patterns and the weathered surfaces of our Victorian home.
